POPOWICH, Adina (nee Rose)
(October 12, 1928 - July 1, 2016)

With sadness the family would like to announce that on Friday July 1, 2016, Adina Popowich passed away suddenly at the Sturgeon Community Hospital in St. Albert at the age of 87. Adina was previously receiving care at the Kipnes Centre for Veterans for a prolonged illness.

She is survived by her sons Terry (Violet), Walter (Cheryl) and Ed (Motia) as well as grandchildren, Monica, Cameron, Melissa, Alexandrea, Wayne, Stephanie, Karl, Sheldon and several great-grandchildren and four siblings Ira, Waldemar, John and Lisa.

Adina was predeceased by her daughters Irene and Lily, parents Karl and Albertine Rose (nee Haupt), siblings Emil and Franz and husbands Albert Kosack and Metro Popowich.

When writing an obituary we so much want to portray the significant events and attributes of our loved one as well as somehow connect the audience to the way the person’s life impacted their family and the world around them. We also strive to acknowledge the family members they held dear in their hearts. Regrettably, describing the most important events, qualities, contributions and connections in a person’s life is a vast and incredible undertaking to scribe on a few lines, as each life is unique, so let us all just remember that. In this uniqueness the little things stored in our collective memories is what we will all remember most.

When we acknowledge the passing of one of us, we want to celebrate the gifts that the person’s life brought to us, sharing parts of their life that we may not have all been aware of, while expressing the grief of our loss. Hopefully we will continue to celebrate life in the moment and continue to always remember those in our past.

Adina enjoyed helping people as demonstrated by her long service as a nurse’s aid in the Allen Gray Auxiliary Hospital. There she really cared for people and went out of her way to improve their quality of life. She expected the same caring and compassionate level of service for her and others like her, when they also needed help.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Kipnes Centre for Veterans, or Allen Gray Continuing Care Centre or the charity of one’s choice.
