It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather on Tuesday, February 16, 2016.
Albert passed away surrounded by family at the University of Alberta Hospital after a short but courageous struggle with pneumonia at the age of 81. Albert was a proud member of the UTU Local 1233 for 35 years during his career at CN Rail where he worked as a switchman and later conductor until his retirement in November 1990. He had amazing perseverance that allowed him nearly six extra years with the family after suffering a severely debilitating stroke in April 2010. During his additional time he was able to attend several key family events that brought him great joy.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Barbara (Ken) McAlpine and his son Brian (Shelley), five grandchildren; Ryan (Laura), Corey, Kevin (Jessica), Steven (Dakota), Larissa (Bailey) and great-grandson Joshua. Albert was predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years Carol and brother, John.
Albert will always be remembered for the love he had for his family, the wonderful times fishing, and his presence at any event his grandchildren participated in.
A celebration of Albert’s life will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 10:00 am at Evergreen Funeral Chapel, 16204 Fort Road, Edmonton. Albert’s final resting place will be with his wife Carol at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta.
