Ivy Stevens passed away peacefully on March 23, 2014. Ivy, one of five siblings, was born on the family homestead near Piapot, Saskatchewan. She attended teacher’s college in Moose Jaw and returned to teach nearby at Merryflat and Caswell. In her teens, Ivy met her future husband, Art. This was the start of a loving relationship that lasted more than six decades. In 1948 they married and moved north to Edmonton where Ivy resumed teaching and Art commenced a long career in the oil industry. Life changed quickly in a few years with the birth of a daughter and twin boys. Ivy’s life rapidly evolved into managing the household and raising children. The family spent many memorable summers on the family farms and camping across western Canada. After Art’s retirement, they enjoyed 30 wonderful years together spending time at their Pigeon Lake home with winters in the Arizona sunshine. Ivy enjoyed sewing, bowling and gardening, and took up painting in her retirement. Ivy and Art had three children, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Ivy’s life on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at 1:00pm at the Evergreen Funeral Chapel, 16204 Fort Road, Edmonton. Cremation has taken place.
Memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, 202, 11227 Jasper Ave, Edmonton, AB T5K 0L5.
