Ronald Kenneth Gaalaas
April 8, 1947 - April 22, 2016
Heaven has welcomed a beautiful angel, Ronald Kenneth Gaalaas. After being diagnosed with
an aggressive and terminal cancer, Mesothelioma, Ron defied all odds with his insatiable
appetite for life and family, giving us all a gift of two more years of his life. On April 22, Ron
rested in everlasting peace surrounded by the eternal love of his family; his wife Marilyn;
daughter Lorie (Jim); son Ronald Jr. (Blaire); daughter Tammy; son Michael (Kristina);
grandchildren Kathryn (Kate), Ronald Kenneth III (Ronnie), Avery, Chloe, Abby, Paris, Skyler,
Kailyn, Samuel (Sam) and Chloe; sisters Pamela Mullen and Janet Kay Hambling. Ron was
preceded in death by his parents, Ariel Owen Kenneth Gaalaas (Johnny) and Frances Enid Rice
Gaalaas (Enid).
Ron, the middle child of three, was born April 8, 1947, in Camrose, Alberta. On August 4, 1967,
he married his true love, Marilyn Joyce Wandell, in Edmonton, Alberta, where they continued to
live and raise their four children. Ron began his career as a ticketed sheet metal worker and
boiler maker. He enjoyed a career at Imperial Oil (Agrium) in Redwater for 20 years which
prompted the family's move in 1981. Ron dedicated his life to his family and his enjoyment of
his hobbies which included hunting, fishing, camping, puttering in his garage and collecting
gadgets and gizmos. His jovial personality and sense of humour were always enjoyed by those
around him. He felt his greatest accomplishments in life were his beautiful marriage to his wife
and the successes and accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.
A celebration of Ron's life will be held on Saturday, April 30, at 10:00am at Evergreen Memorial
Gardens & Funeral Home located at 16204 Fort Road, Edmonton, Alberta.
Donations may be made in his memory to the Canadian Mesothelioma Foundation or on-line at
