It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Richard (Dick) Kenny, lifelong companion and husband of the late Elizabeth (Betty) Kenny of Edmonton, at the age of 87. Dick was a committed and loving father and will be forever missed by his three daughters, Barb (Steve Klemke), Karen (Dave Beamish), and Jill (Lorenzo Clonfero). Grandpa will be missed by his grandchildren: Andrea (Jon), Scott (Rachael), Nick (Felicia), Maria, Connor, Daniella and Michael, as well as great grandchildren: Emerson, Avalynn, Clara and precious baby Brayden who is with the angels in Heaven.

Dick was born in Alliance, Alberta to Richard and Ethel Kenny. Dick met Betty in Edmonton and they were married on September 4, 1954. Dick’s career with Builder’s Hardware (Merit Stores) took them to Camrose, Red Deer and Edmonton. Always respected by his colleagues, his innate sense of managerial experience allowed for quick advancement within his field. With an entrepreneurial spirit, Dick saw a unique opportunity for a career change in the late 1970s when he embarked upon a successful commercial development and real estate career.

Together Dick and Betty enjoyed many years of extensive world travel, as well as volunteer ventures within their local communities, including Kinsmen, YMCA, community leagues and church. Family was a priority and together they provided an exceptional upbringing and wonderful life experiences for their daughters.

Dick was diagnosed with Parkinson’s at the age of 65. He never dwelled on his disease, only faced it with wisdom and great courage. Dick taught all who knew him that, “We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand.” (Randy Pausch, The Last Lecture) Dick played his cards well … in a dignified, gracious and selfless manner, all the while maintaining a spirit of adventure. Dick has left a legacy of integrity, loyalty, hard work ethic and selflessness. These outstanding qualities continue to be embraced within the family.

The family would like to thank Rosedale staff for their kind and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Mission in memory of Dick. The family will be holding a private Celebration of Life
